I’ve only done one blog since February.  One blog!  That’s poor.

In my defence, I’ve been as busy as ever and on top of that I’ve been pondering my options regarding studio spaces, as per the last blog.

I did actually find something very suitable, 100 metres from my house, and was seriously looking at it for a while. It was for sale rather than rent, and I had to think long and hard about the costs. In the end, I stuck a post on my personal Facebook page, asking people what they thought. And actually, all the artists I’d worked with basically instructed me to stay where I was; they praised the intimacy, sound and good creative atmosphere of my current studio.

So, in short, I’m staying put for now, but things might still change in the future.

Instead of buying a studio, I’ve decided to invest in some new equipment.  I’ve bought a new custom Apple Mac, currently waiting in a box next to me, some new microphones to complement my trusty AKG c414, new headphones, preamps, effects; loads of stuff to make everything sound even better.  I’ll be spending this weekend installing it all and I can’t wait!

Next week is Haynes Music’s birthday and, as I did last year, I’ll be doing a competition to win a free recording.  If you’re interested, keep an eye on my Facebook page.

Meanwhile, here’s last year’s winner, Hannah Howe, and the track she subsequently recorded, an upbeat soul/pop track called Sunflower Friend:

Speaking of Facebook, I put up a post on Facebook promising a series of blogs of music production, and the idea got a lot of Likes.  It will delve into what a music producer does, what a music producer is, how to hire one and how to become one.

I’ve started writing these and hope to have some up by late August.  If there’s anything that anyone wants to know in particular, get in touch!

In the meantime, have a lovely summer and I may have a few surprises for you in the autumn…
