Spin IMy job is awesome.  I love working with people on music on a daily basis.  But recently, there was a side of me that was pining to create music just for fun, which is what this short blog is about; I’ve released my own EP!

2016 didn’t start too well for me, with there being two major illnesses in the family.  Also, after an extremely busy 2015, I found myself a little exhausted and listening to lot of ambient music at the end of each day.

I’ve always loved ambient music.  I love the old Brian Eno albums, the more recent Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie albums, as well as atmospheric ambient/drone artists such as Robert Rich.  I find a lot of recent ambient music tries too hard to be interesting, which kind of defeats the object!

One night, on the spur of the moment, I set up my Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro to go through a Strymon Timeline delay and a Strymon Big Sky reverb.

Then, I simply pressed record and started improvising. The EP genuinely took as long to make as it does to listen to.

I absolutely love it.  I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it’s not going to set the charts alight, but it does exactly what I wanted it to; it’s good night music.  Great head music.  Switch-off music.  Whatever you want it to be!

You can buy my EP now for the price of a pint of beer, or just enjoy streaming it over at Bandcamp: https://smokymusic.bandcamp.com
